Planning Districts
Within Summit County, any geographic area is either included in an incorporated city or is part of "The County." Incorporated cities such as Park City, Kamas, and Coalville have their own governments, public services, and planning departments. Summit County governs all areas outside of the cities - the unincorporated areas.
Snyderville Basin is one such area. In 1998, the Summit County government determined that Snyderville Basin was different enough from the rest of their jurisdiction that it established a separate Planning Commission, General Plan, and Development Code for specifically the Snyderville Basin. The Snyderville Basin includes the unincorporated area surrounding Park City. Neighborhoods within the Snyderville Basin include Silver Creek, Pinebrook, Jeremey Ranch, Summit Park, and Old Ranch Road.
The East Side General Plan and Development Code govern the remainder of the County. Eastern Summit County includes the unincorporated areas outside of the municipalities of Francis, Kamas, Oakley, Coalville, and Henefer. Eastern Summit County includes communities like Wanship, Hoytsville, Echo, Chalk Creek, Upton, Peoa, Marion Woodland, and parts of the Uintas. These two sets of documents are drafted and implemented independently, but the County administers and enforces both.
