Summit County Utah Sheriff’s Patrol Division | Law Enforcement & Public Safety Patrol Services

The Summit County Utah Sheriff’s Office serves a community of nearly 40,000 (2014 census) people and has a sworn officer strength of nearly 100 deputies. Often during peak tourist times of the year, Summit County ’s population can swell to double or triple its regular size with visitors.

The Patrol Division consists of The Patrol Division, The Motor Unit, and the K9 Unit. The Patrol Division conducts duties around the clock to ensure safety and service to the community. The Motor Unit routinely conducts operations during “peak” traffic hours, and handles local complaints and traffic studies.

The Patrol Division also handles special events planning and staffing for over 150 special events each year. Summit County is host to several international events such as: The Sundance Film Festival, The Tour of Utah, Ragnar Relay Series, and several other major events.

This component of the Sheriff’s Office is responsible for providing 24 hour law enforcement presence throughout the 1849 square mile jurisdictional area of the Office. In order to do so, the deputies operate from four permanently assigned Platoons. Deputies work a three on / two off / two on / three off schedule, this schedule allows deputies every other weekend off (Fri, Sat, & Sun). Each shift is commanded by a watch commander. Patrol Personnel presently work from four locations – Area 2 (Coalville), Area 3 (Snyderville / Park City), Area 4 (Kamas / Oakley), Area 5 (Pinebrook / Park City). Deputies work on a 12 hours shift rotation (night shift / day shift).

The Division is responsible for responding to emergency (911) and non-emergency calls for service, maintaining order, investigating crimes, investigating traffic accidents, traffic control, apprehending offenders, and meeting the needs of the citizens and business owners of Summit County.
