As of Monday, January 16, Republic Services has resumed its regular operating schedule. This means you will be serviced on your regularly scheduled service day for both trash and recycling. We know that for many this means excessive gaps between service.
**As a temporary solution to provide relief from trash service disruptions, county residents can bring household waste to the Three Mile Landfill, free of charge through the end of January. Trailers or large loads/items like construction materials or furniture do not apply.**
To accommodate built-up recyclables, please remember our partners at Recycle Utah accept all major recyclables as well as many hard-to-recycle items. Learn more about the materials they accept at recycleutah.org and remember: all items must be sorted before being dropped off at the center!
Summit County Leadership met with Republic on Friday (1/13) to address service delays and public concerns related to trash pickup. The following commitments were made as a result of this meeting.
Republic will produce a summary plan to be reviewed and approved by Summit County Leadership this week. The final version of this document will be released to the public and include:
A timeline of when trash services will be completed/caught up.
Expectations of when phone call and text communications from Republic will go out to customers concerning interruptions of collection services, instructions about whether or not to bring in trash bins, when collections will be resumed, and whether it is for both household waste and/or recycling, and how to sign up for notifications.
How future weather events will be addressed moving forward.
A commitment to provide Summit County staff with daily summaries and updates on service fulfillment and delays.
Summit County will also update a waste dashboard that will include all reported service delays and locations. The dashboard will be updated at the end of each weekday. This can be found at https://summitcounty.org/trashdash.
Summit County wants to extend its gratitude to the individual Republic Services drivers and other on-the-ground staff who continue to work tirelessly in extremely difficult conditions to collect Summit County's waste. We have had reports that our residents are offering words of thanks and encouragement to those workers, but we are also deeply concerned that some residents are insulting or threatening these individuals.
We ask the public to please be kind and courteous to Republic drivers and other workers in the field; some have agreed to come from well outside our region to supplement the regular service and help in a time of service challenges.
