The Summit County Lands & Natural Resources Department identifies, protects, and manages open spaces, trails, and trailheads to preserve and maintain Summit County's rural mountain character, unique natural areas, and high quality of life for residents and visitors. Since 1980, Summit County has worked closely with County Special Service Districts, non-profit organizations, private landowners, and public agencies to protect open spaces and build recreational trails and transportation paths.
